Day 13 - Trading Schwag and Saying Goodbye

Maccabiah 18 is done for me. I head to the airport tomorrow morning to return to the USA. While our results and placing was a temporary disappointment, the experience was fantastic and priceless. The friendships made amongst teammates and also opponents will be lifelong. What an honor to be part of this special group of athletes and people. Can't wait for Australia 2010, Sao Poalo 2011 and Israel 2013. Perhaps I will be able to bring home a medal at one of these games.

As a momento of these games, I retired my ball which was the actual one that we played with in the games. I had all of my teammates sign it and will proudly display it in my trophy case. Thanks guys for indulging me.

Two of the local Israeli organizers for the soccer competition. These two ladies worked tirelessly and are to be congratulated for their efforts.

Like we really needed another delicious chocolate cake. What a nice touch by Goldy's family to send it to him.
Goldy sitting in the lounge with all of us singing him happy birthday. I think he's 48 now but I'm not sure.
Here is some of my schwag collection that continues to grow. I got a bunch of GB and South Africa stuff as well as an Italian hat and Mexico game jersey. I even have my Canada Jersey from 1989 that I proudly wore to the USA v Canada game yesterday afternoon. I kept a lot of my USA stuff as it was really nice this year and I want to keep a momento of these games for years to come.

Bags of clothing and accessories are being carried around by those eager to trade for the other countries colors.
The boys negotiating a deal. USA v England in this one.

During the last few days, the trading gets fast and furious. There's a lot of good stuff to be had and a lot of good deals to be made. Not sure who the best traders are but BK, Parksy and Brief are three very savvy shmatah collectors. Wiz is learning but has a lot of potential.
